Premiere Pro Social Media Video Sizes: TikTok, Reels, Shorts & More

Social platforms use different frame sizes and aspect ratios. Setting up the correct Premiere Pro sequence for each destination helps you adapt one edit without rebuilding settings from memory every time.

How to Create Each Size in Premiere Pro

  1. Create a new sequence, or duplicate an existing sequence when you want to preserve the original version.
  2. Open Sequence Settings.
  3. Set the frame width and height for the destination platform.
  4. Adjust the edit so the source fits the new frame.
  5. Check text, titles, graphics, and important subjects throughout the timeline.
  6. Review the complete sequence before export.

Converting Landscape Video to Vertical

Moving from a 16:9 landscape edit to a 9:16 vertical sequence changes which parts of the image remain visible. Reframe each important shot, crop only where appropriate, and reposition the source to keep the main subject inside the vertical frame.

Review titles and graphics separately. Elements designed across a wide landscape canvas may need repositioning or resizing to remain readable in the narrower layout.

Fill vs Fit Width or Fit Height

Fill

Fill scales the source until it covers the complete destination frame. This avoids empty areas, but it may crop content near the edges.

Fit Width / Fit Height

Fit Width or Fit Height preserves more of the original frame along the selected dimension. Depending on the source and destination aspect ratios, this can leave empty areas or black bars.

What to Do with Black Bars

Keep black barsLeave the unused frame areas black when that presentation suits the delivery.
Use a blurred backgroundPlace a blurred version of the source behind the fitted video to fill the canvas.
Use a brand colorFill the unused area with a solid color that supports the project’s visual identity.
